Exploring in the City - Spring Break 2017

3/29/2017

We are halfway through spring break week... and we've still got a lot of fun ahead of us. I was away for work last week in Orlando, and I knew I would have some catch-up to do, so I worked Monday. The kids hung out with my dad, and then yesterday was our first official day of spring break. Lucky for us, the weather has been really good. I plan to do some separate blog posts detailing some of our activities, but here is our rough guide of what we are up to in Winnipeg.

Sunday. The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) had free admission all day. We took advantage and walked through the galleries, trying in vain to keep the kids from touching things. The group of seven paintings were a hit for all of us.

Monday. I worked... so technically not much of a spring break day. We could have checked out some of our favourite places like the Children's MuseumFort Whyte, or the Festival of Fools at the Forks. In the evening, Poppy and I headed to Polo Park to pick up a few things - mainly a new pair of maternity jeans for me. I found these at H & M which I love... maternity style posts are coming soon! It was also 15% off at H & M for all teachers, something I thought was nice.

Tuesday. Soren and I had really wanted to go to the Human Rights Museum, but we thought that Poppy might be a little young to understand some of the subjects. We also thought a little 'date' would be fun... so Poppy went off to grandma's where I hear they went to shelmerdine's. Soren and I enthusiastically embraced all that the museum had to offer. We walked up the gorgeous alabaster walkways, took the elevator up to the tower of hope, and relaxed with a book in their new library. We stopped for lunch at ERA Bistro, where Soren had his first pic-a-pop - Rootbeer flavoured! After exploring as much as we could, we left the museum and stopped by Tall Grass Bakery at the Forks where we shared a brownie. It was a lovely day - just the two of us.

Wednesday. We met friends at the Assiniboine Park Zoo and explored for the morning. There is a new polar bear cub who is adorable... the three little cubs are in an enclosure by themselves, and they look to be having so much fun. This afternoon, we are checking into a hotel for a little slumber party! I booked a last minute hotel on hotwire, with my only requirements being that it had to be at least 3 stars, and have an indoor pool. For $73 we were matched with a Holiday Inn... the kids are SO EXCITED about this, and started packing immediately. We plan to swim, eat junk food, and watch a movie in bed. And then probably do the same tomorrow morning:)

Thursday. The slumber party will take up the first part of our day, and I have a feeling we may be a little tired after it's over. It may be a home day for the rest of the day... time to catch up and do a little laundry and organizing. If the nice weather continues I want to get started with setting up our backyard patio... we shall see.

Friday. No definitive plans as of yet. We may do one of the Monday suggestions, or weather dependant, it may be the perfect day to break out our bikes. Last year we had some great biking days like this one, and we can't wait to explore some more.

That's it so far! A few of our favourite things to do, and a few new ones too. Is there anything we are missing? Any wonderful Winnipeg attractions that we should add to our list?
