Skipping School / Halloween Fun

Last weekend I had to work, so I was hoping to sneak away for a couple hours one morning this week and hang out with the kids. Meetings kept creeping up, but I was able to carve out a few hours on thursday morning and quickly told the kids we were gonna do something fun. When I told Soren he would be missing school, he immediately asked me if I had called his school. The kid is responsible!

After the phone calls were made, we were off to Shelmerdines for their annual halloween fun zone. It is seriously the best place for kids. Ziplines, a hay maze, a bouncy castle, colouring, face painting, and snacks - the kids could have happily played all day. Of course, we were not the only ones who've heard of this gem, so it did get pretty busy. It's tough to watch two kids at a place like this... you really have to trust that other parents can help out and keep your kids safe, if needed. I can't physically be in two places at once, and the kids were just bursting with energy.

Sadly, my camera battery died pretty quickly, so I don't have any shots of the kids getting their faces painted. They both loved that part. Poppy transformed into a beautiful purple butterfly, and Soren became a ninja turtle.

For me, the best part was spending time with them. Weekday morning activities were something we used to be able to do anytime, back when I was on maternity leave. I totally miss playgroups, and random days at the zoo, or even going to the library. I also met up with a couple girlfriends and their kids, something that doesn't happen as much as I'd like it to.

Another great perk about Shelmerdines is the gorgeous decor, and the christmas decorations have started to go up. I know today is halloween, but I never get much into the halloween decor. Christmas on the other hand... I'm totally on board with decorations coming out tomorrow! Well maybe not quite, but I'm thinking about it:)
