Outdoor Dinner Party

7/21/2013

We were super excited to host a dinner party on our new deck. When we picked the day a few weeks back, we worried that it would be too hot to sit outside, so we set the time at 8pm hoping to beat the heat. Well, yesterday a strange cool front swept in, and I had pull out blankets and pashminas for our guests. I worried that it would be too cold, but it was actually very refreshing. The heat from the fire helped, too.

We ended up with a smaller group than originally anticipated, but that was nice too. It gave us the confidence to pull off outdoor dinner parties - which we hope to continue for the rest of the summer. It was wonderful to sit outside at midnight as the fire crackled, knowing that our baby was just inside sleeping. Entertaining at home is great for parents, as you don't have to change up their routines or worry about them sleeping properly. We put the Littlest to bed before the guests arrived which allowed us to interact with everyone and relax. A great way to celebrate turning another year older (not till Tuesday!).

On the menu:
appetizers - Guacamole and multigrain chips, tomato basil bruschetta, bousin stuffed mushroom caps
main - Maple glazed salmon, roasted baby potatoes with rosemary, kale salad with cranberries, green beans with lemon and pine nuts, roasted beet salad with goat cheese
dessertBrownie cheesecake slice and some beautiful cupcakes that a friend made

What a beautiful setting. I would much rather have it be too cool than too hot.

When it comes to party planning, I fully trust on Mr. Brian Van for creating extremely beautiful gazebos and marquees, because he helped organising my wedding reception party with utmost perfection.
