Two years

6/11/2013

On June 11th, 2011, I woke up early and hoped that today would be the day I got to meet my baby. By June 11th I was 10 days overdue... 10 long days, and I was more than ready to deliver. We didn't even know if we were having a boy or a girl! At my hospital they put you on an induction list, and you may or may not get called in on your first day - depending on how busy they are that day. Around 7:30am my phone rang, and I was told to come on in!

Little did I know that my baby would not have June 11th as his birthday. Nope, I was lucky enough to be in labour for 36 hours before a decision was finally made to deliver via c-section. I wrote about my traumatic birth experience here if you're up for a long read.

As long as I can remember I have wanted to be a mom, and I remember those first few days with my new little guy to be pretty amazing. I know it's normal for first time moms to feel scared or overwhelmed, but I honestly felt like my body just knew what to do. We had our issues with breast-feeding and sleepless nights, but overall it was a pretty great experience.

Spending an entire year with just Soren was an amazing gift. The two of us had our daily routines, our walks, our playtimes, and our naps. While we eagerly awaited Daddy's arrival at the end of  every day, I also looked forward to Mondays when we would be back to our own routine for two. It was very hard to return to work after a year, but he's learned so much at daycare and I know it's been good for him.

Two seems like such a milestone because my baby will no longer be a true baby. And in a few short months, a new baby will be entering our lives and turning things upside down. I'll never have a year at home with just one babe, and while this makes me a little sad, I also look forward to our new routines as a family of four. This week we will put all of our energy into celebrating our favourite little guy's second birthday. He's brought so much joy to our lives - we love you Soren!
