The Teddy Bears Picnic

5/26/2013

Before Soren was born I used to volunteer with the Teddy Bears Picnic, but I gave it up the year he was born. It's a fun event where kids can bring their bears to the 'doctors' (real doctors or med students volunteering) and go through the process of going to the hospital. There are x-ray machines, physiotherapy, eye doctors, dentists, paediatrics, and much more. A large part of the picnic is set up like a massive hospital complete with a triage station and arrows directing you to different parts of the hospital. In addition, many non-profits and businesses set up tents that cater to children, such as the teachers tent that was filled with books.

Soren was a little small to take part in a lot of activities, but we had our own fun picnicking in front of the stage, dancing to music and watching the hundreds of other families who had come out for the day. Although the line for pancakes was long, they were delicious! A great $3... especially considering all the proceeds from the picnic go towards the Children's Hospital Foundation. The picnic is in it's 27th year, and I can definitely remember taking my bears there when I was little. It will be a fun tradition for us to continue.

That sounds like a nice way to spend the day, for a great cause. Soren is really getting big, he's so cute. And I love your hair like that!

Seriously, I'm dying over the bear ears!! SO SO SO CUTE! He's a cutie, no doubt! I've actually never been to the Teddy Bears Picnic in all my years in Winnipeg - so sad!

I think it's awesome you've volunteered, and kept a tradition on going.

Now...where can I get some pancakes, STAT!?
