The best homemade pizza

4/08/2013

I came across this recipe a few months back on epicurious - Sausage, Red Onion, and Wild Mushroom Pizza. It is amazing! I've made it three or four times and it always turns out great. There's no traditional pizza sauce, which is refreshing and makes it tastier, at least according to my taste buds. I have attempted to make my own pizza dough, but my favourite is ready-made dough that I buy from La Grotta. How can you go wrong for $1.49 homemade dough? The littlest can at times be a very picky eater, but he loves his pork (he clearly takes after his dad), so this pizza was a hit. I don't know what it is about my neighbourhood grocery stores, but I can never find any interesting mushroom varieties, so I can attest that plain old button mushrooms are just fine here.

After taking a little hiatus from cooking for a few weeks, it feels good to put a home-cooked meal on the table. We got in a little rut of picking up take-out, sushi, or pizza for more than a few nights in a row, and then it becomes a nasty habit. I like making meals for my family, so I'm happily back on track this week with a full on meal plan. Next up? Skillet chicken pot pie - from February's Bon Appetit.
