Finding out

Back in the beginning of February, I started to feel a bit off. I was feeling light-headed and dizzy, a bit nauseous, and a bit tired. It was February, in the midst of our miserable winter, so I thought it could just be another winter cold. Also, I had this irrational tendency to convince myself that I was pregnant every month, and then be disappointed when I wasn't... so I wasn't assuming anything.

A few days passed and my symptoms did not go away. My handy iphone app was telling me that I was a day late, and then two days late, as I secretly wondered if maybe this time there was something to get my hopes up for. I made deals with myself as to when I would buy a pregnancy test (maybe 3 or 4 days late), and then when I would actually TAKE the test (first thing in the morning... 4 days late? five?). Then I noticed that Valentine's Day was fast approaching, coming up on Thursday. Wouldn't that be a fun surprise? A positive pregnancy test on Valentine's day? I decided to wait and take the test on Thursday morning.

I'm not sure I slept much on wednesday night, knowing what was waiting for me in the bathroom when I awoke. I managed not to tell Tyler anything, and I jumped out of bed when my alarm rang on Valentine's Day. We know this part of the story - a positive line! I was beaming all throughout my shower, blow-drying my hair, and getting Soren up (whispering that he was going to become a big brother). I kissed Tyler good-bye and danced off to work.

How was I going to tell my husband? I figured I needed something exciting. I brainstormed all day, looking up 'ways to announce pregnancy', and scouring baby blogs. In the end, I didn't come up with anything ground-breaking. After work, I grabbed Soren and headed to our local Chapters to find an appropriate card and book. I came across Theres Going to be a Baby, and loved the sweet illustrations.

After dinner I told Tyler that Soren and I had a little gift for him. The card came first, where I had written something along the lines of 'I love you so much, and can't wait to expand our family together'. Next, Soren and I handed him the book (which was now wrapped). Tyler opened it and... nothing. He looked at it, at the card, at me, and gave me a funny look. Then he said something like 'But you're not pregnant NOW...', to which I replied YES! I must say his response was not exactly awe-inspiring. He mumbled something about needing some time to think about this. Luckily, my excitement was barely dampened. I was still ecstatic, and knew my husband well enough to know that sometimes he needs a little while to warm up to new things:)

And now? We are both so excited to welcome a new little one to the world. Boy or girl, this little one will be a perfect addition to our family and we cannot wait to meet him or her!

Aww! I love how you told him! You did so good though to wait until valentines to test... I think the suspense would've been killing me!

How exciting! I love your creative way of telling your husband. Mine always insists we look at the pregnancy test together. I think he'd feel shortchanged if I found out before he did. So happy you're expanding your little family this year! Hope your pregnancy goes really well.
