a daycare update

I promise to stop posting pictures from Palm Springs soon... but not just yet! This cute dude has had a busy week, but he couldn't be happier. Last year when I went back to work full-time, I had mixed feelings. Luckily, everything worked out well and we found a lovely daycare that was just down the street from us. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, when we got an email (while on vacation) informing us our daycare was closing immediately.

Daycare in Winnipeg (as I'm sure it is in other cities too) is incredibly difficult to get. I've been on a centralized waiting list since I was six months pregnant, and I have still not gotten any calls. The system is clearly flawed, and in the meantime moms stress out and become those psychotic people who call daycares every single day, begging for a spot.

Needless to say, we freaked out upon hearing that our daycare had closed it's doors. We needed to return to our jobs after vacation, but who would watch our son? I started putting out feelers on social media, as well as scouring the classified ads on Kijiji. And then, something wonderful happened! We had a referral to a home daycare that was located near us, and from an initial phone call on Friday night to a meeting Sunday afternoon... Soren started at the new daycare Monday! It could not have turned out better for us.

His first two days have been amazing. We get pictures texted to us throughout our days, giving us glimpses into what he is doing. From dance time, to basketball (his new obsession!), to story time and crafts, he is in his element. After day one he was exhausted, and a little grumpy. On day two we both noticed a positive change in him. He ate dinner without complaint, which is rare, and actually devoured a bowl of quinoa and black beans. He stopped asking to watch 'shows' and instead amused himself with made-up games as I was preparing dinner.

Sometimes it's easy to feel sorry for yourself, and think that things in life are hard (and not going your way). This unexpected change has proven to be better than we could have ever imagined, and I am so happy to know that my baby is getting the best possible care when I am not with him.

I'd sure love to peep in on baby dance class and basketball playing. I imagine it's hilarious. Glad to see your little man's adapting well to his new daycare & that they're nice enough to shoot photos for you too!
